Course Objective

Designed for personnel who wish to embark on a career operating mobile cranes. The course will provide understanding of all current legislation HASAWA 1974, PUWER and LOLER, the approved codes of practice and guidance notes associated with the safe use of cranes and lifting accessories. The course will provide candidate with the knowledge and understanding to safely set up and operate a mobile crane as per manufacturer’s instruction and the ability to establish and follow various methods of communication to lift and place loads safely.

Course content to include 

  • The legal framework, (LOLER, PUWER and the HSAWA 1974, BS 7121)
  • The maintenance and examination requirements of lifting equipment
  • The checking of test certificates and other relevant documentation
  • Methods of communication used during lifting operations
  • The rigging and de-rigging of mobile cranes
  • Crane terminology
  • Crane duty charts
  • Crane types and their capabilities and limitations
  • Rigging, de-rigging and use of fly jibs
  • Pre start inspections and checks to be made by the operator
  • Safe operating of a mobile crane.
  • Roles and duties of a slinger signaller as per BS7121
  • Lifting accessories inspection and safe use of
  • Methods of attaching lifting accessories to loads
